Deportation of 240K immigrants halted
A federal judge temporarily halted deportations of 240,000 immigrants from El Salvador, Haiti, Nicaragua and Sudan, citing administration “animus “ against nonwhites and non-Europeans. The immigrants, from countries at war or suffering natural disasters, faced the prospect of becoming undocumented after the Dept. of Homeland Security argued that they had outstayed their welcome under the Temporary Protected Status program. A hearing is set for later this month.
