Good news for the retail sector

While there’s no denying the retailpocalypse has hit a growing number of stores, the most recent being Toys “R” US, not all stores are struggling, CNBC reports. Suzanne Mulvee, an analyst at CoStar Group, said that the market mismatch lies in large box retailers closing while those looking to expand are mid-to-small size outlets. Discount chain Dollar General plans to open 900 new stores in 2018 focusing on a rural clientele, with the CEO Todd Vasos saying that the best way for the company to grow is to add more locations. Aldi’s is adding 180 new stores while Ulta Beauty and Ross are both planning to open 100 new stores this year. Eyeglass retailer Warby Parker plans to expand by 40 stores. Target is opening 35 new, smaller stores in 2018, which are more profitable per square foot than the chain’s bigger outlets. • What are your thoughts on the future of retail?
